Star-Spangled Mystery

Star-Spangled Mystery is an engaging and entertaining musical history tour that explores how “The Banner” became our national anthem and examines why it took so long for Congress to finally consecrate the song in 1931. The performance focuses in part on the pivotal role veterans played in making the song into the official anthem and is perfect for Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Veterans Day, and more. Audiences often know these tunes and sing along.

"A must see."

- Cassie Ward, Executive Director, Putnam History Museum

"...Great presentation!"

- Jean Taplett, Vice President, Purchase Free Library

I have put scores of scholars on stage & Marc Ferris stands out as one of the most distinctly entertaining of the bunch. His discussion of “The Star-Spangled Banner” combined thorough research, humor & impressive guitar skills in a way that had people thinking, laughing & tapping their toes.

Peter Schmidt, CEO, Profs and Pints Lecture Series

People raved about the presentation and had a great time.

Susan Stonesifer, Daughters of the American Revolution

The presentation this evening, Star Spangled Mystery, was very well attended. Marc . . . did a terrific job of providing interesting background on our anthem. Great presentation!

Jean Taplett, Vice President, Purchase Free Library

[The] presentation ‘Star Spangled Mystery’ goes far beyond the expectations of a library lecture. Engaging from beginning to end, Marc punctuates his program with live musical examples, expertly sung & played by him. The music was lively & the lecture was just as entertaining; never a dull moment

Lois Skelly, Program Coordinator, Croton Free Library
